“Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to.”
— Alan Keightley

On the road: Week six round-up

Distance travelled: 138km from Paeroa to Auckland.

Audiobook on deck: Mistborn: Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson. We’ve finally made it onto the next one - number six in the series.

Currently watching: Fullmetal Alchemist and campaign two of Critical Role. Also watched the first episode of Drag SOS while we were at home and fell in love.

We were grateful for: Alan and Zoe sharing their space with us so we could crash at the house for the week.

We missed: Being out on the road! As much as it’s been nice to see people and spend some time in the garden, we’ve both felt not quite right about being back in Auckland. It’s been a bit weird.

We learned: That UK campers have really obscure fridge sizing, and so it’s really difficult to find a replacement, unless your RV guy happens to be a legend and stashes spares in his back room.

Funniest moment: Seeing myself reflected in my nephew Oli in the way he was mocking his little brother. It was uncanny and hilarious, as I had done the exact same thing to Dan just hours earlier.

Best save: The DnD posse rescuing my character Howard from the clutches of a rakshasa, with Mike heroically playing TWO characters in Caitlin’s absence.

Best campsite: The driveway of Balmain Road has been our only camping location this week!

Most interesting fact we learned: I learned what a death drop was, and realised were I to ever try doing it, I would quite possibly die for real. At least, my knees would.

We recommend: If you know that leaving your RV step without the mat insert in it creates a ankle rolling hazard, that you put it back in as soon as you can. Otherwise you end up with a very badly rolled ankle. Tut.

Number of wrecked cars on the roadside: None, as we weren’t driving as much!

Progress made towards our 20 in 2020: Dan made BBQ pork bao, but they fell a bit flat. Any advice on how to make fluffy bao would be gratefully received!
