Lockdown edition: Week thirteen roundup
Days stayed in lockdown location: Five days in a fabulous place just outside of Geraldine.
Audiobook on deck: Fear The Survivors by Stephen Moss. We have finished the first in this three-book series and we are onto the second.
Currently watching: Now that Critical Role is in lockdown and not producing any content, we have switched to Westworld Season three.
We were grateful for: Being in each other’s bubble as I know some couples aren’t able to be together during this time.
We missed: Stocking up on the delicious meat at the Geraldine Butcher before they were declared non-essential services and forced to close. If the government had tasted those sausages (beef and blue cheese, anyone??) they would have realised that these were indeed essential.
We learned: If you wanted to buy self-raising flour this week, you were sh— out of luck.
Weirdest moment: Hearing the road noise completely disappear overnight after lockdown started. It’s gone from regular traffic to about two cars an hour.
Best save: Foraging wild apples and blackberries to stew up as a compote for our morning porridge.
Best spend: Buying amazing frozen dog food from Timaru Pet Food. Kratos is loving his new complete breakfast.
Biggest adjustment: Not being able to use the local DOC tracks for our walks! We have really got into hiking lately, so learning that we weren’t able to still smash out some sweet walks has been the thing that has felt the most restrictive.
Most interesting fact we learned: That Dan can homebrew hand sanitiser using World Health Organisation guidelines. He has the 75% alcohol and we will try to get the other components later in the week when we are out for our weekly shop. If you’re interested, the link to the video is here.
We recommend: Collecting hobbies (like us) so you never run out of things to do! Our current hobbies include: (Dan) home brewing and distilling, knife sharpening, leatherwork, gaming, flying a drone, cooking, (Kath) knitting, quilting, bullet journalling, Sudoku and Codeword puzzles, blogging, studying te reo, reading, calligraphy, (Both) Dungeons and Dragons, audiobooks, walking.
Number one bright side of this lockdown: We have a place to park that is powered, has unlimited water, a dump station and laundry facilities on site. There are also beautiful gardens, loads of space and wonderful hosts (Dave and Sue) and other folks riding out the lockdown. We have a fabulous “Quaranteam” going on and we could not be more grateful.
Stay safe, stay well and stay at home folks. We got this.
